In Baskit, Harper transforms a lounging cat into an elegant arrangement of shapes, curves, and color blocks. The surrounding checkerboard pattern evokes a picnic tablecloth, grounding the composition in a familiar domestic scene while still feeling distinctly modernist. 

Like much of Harper’s work, the piece balances structure with warmth and humor. Though reduced to its essential forms, the cat never loses its presence. 

Handcrafted in Ann Arbor, Michigan, using Motawi’s time-honored Cuenca technique.
